I am a retired primary school teacher from Mwanza. I began my teaching career back in 1988, at a rural school in the Geita Region, and I dedicated myself to educating children and supporting my family throughout those years.
I tried to save money through a savings group, and little by little, I managed to improve my family's living conditions. I also invested in a small poultry business, and that business is still giving me some income to this day.
I retired in 2024, and since then, I've been receiving a monthly pension of about TZS 380,000. It helps with food and healthcare, but it doesn't cover all my household expenses, because the prices of essential goods have risen so much in recent years.
To manage, I continue to farm my poultry, and every now and then, family members help me out too. My advice to younger workers is this: develop the habit of saving early in life, and don't rely only on your pension once you retire.
