John Zwane

South Africa

My name is John Zwane, and I was born on June 20, 1969. I went to Intjebo Primary School before moving on to Lavela High School.

After I finished school, I worked for Checkers for 15 years, from 1989 to 2003. I have two children, born out of wedlock, my first in 1989 and my second in 1990, both with the same woman. Sadly, she passed away in 2004.

After I lost that job, I found work as a gardener in Sandton, but it wasn't a permanent position, and I've been doing odd jobs ever since. In 2004, I was arrested for theft and sentenced to four years at Krugersdorp Prison, where I stayed until 2009.

Right now, I'm unemployed, and I receive R370 in unemployment relief. Even with everything I've been through, I still volunteer in my community and help out with different community projects.
