Rajah

Mauritius

I am Rajah, now 62 years old. I began my working life as an apprentice in a small carpentry workshop in my hometown. Over the years, I built up my skills and eventually opened my own furniture business, a journey marked by hard work and determination.

Throughout my career, I saved diligently, setting aside a portion of my earnings each month. By the time I retired at 60, I had built up enough savings to support myself for a few years.

Today, I receive a pension of approximately MUR 24,000 per month, which helps cover basic expenses like groceries, medication, and utility bills. Even so, it barely covers my cost of living, and sometimes I must draw on my savings or rely on support from my children.

Despite these challenges, I feel grateful for the journey I've had. I now enjoy my retirement spending time with my grandchildren and pursuing hobbies like gardening.
