Rajendra

India

I started my first job when I didn't even have my college degree. I started working as a clerk in a laboratory of sorts, under a manager and I was given 150 rupees per month. I started morning classes for college and I told the company that I would come to the job a few minutes late every day. They agreed to my conditions and I was hired. I pursued a degree alongside my work and my superior taught me basic accountancy. I graduated from college around 1972 and decided to leave the laboratory. Even though I had a degree in arts, I had politics and economics so it was fine. But still I was able to work in the finance sector. After I graduated I got offered a job by a local company that worked with Tata. They used to sell Tata cars and repair any car that came in. I was offered a position as an accounts clerk again with the same salary, and I worked there for a few years. Then in 1978 I got offered a job by a bigger company. I was offered a position as an accounts officer. I got a salary of 700 Indian rupees per month. I also started this job around the time I got married. I worked there for a few years before the company's HR transferred me to a sister company under the same position, as accounts officer in 1996. I had the same salary, but I was just transferred here as both the companies were owned by the same person. I got promoted to finance general manager when I decided to leave. I worked here from 1996 to 2004, when I decided to first retire. I was 60 years old, and I had decided I had worked enough. But I started another job in the year of 2006. I joined as the Finance Manager. I was in charge of handling the accounts of many departments. When I started working I was given a salary of 45,000 rupees per month, when I retired they gave me 60,000 rupees. I didn't get any pension, the company didn't provide any pension as I worked in the private sector. So yes, I worked 5 different times throughout my life. Now I am working for a social cause. I work with an organization that helps children with squint eyes get operations. I also work in the temple and help educate children about our religion.
