Kamala

India

Inherently curious and with a keen desire to learn, Kamala was determined to work hard and make a living for herself and her family. Having a single mother and three young sisters, Kamala stepped up and took responsibility for her own education by attending convent boarding school at the same time as taking care of her youngest sister.

She later moved to Mumbai at the young age of 18 to attend college while simultaneously tutoring school children in order to pay for her education. Fuelled by a love of sharing her knowledge with the world, Kamala realised that teaching was her calling, and completed her D.Ed so that she could become a full-time professional in a well-established school. She spent many fruitful years sharing her love of English and literature with students, while also navigating other aspects of her life - living alone and away from the rest of her family.

In spite of her wish to continue teaching, Kamala began facing problems with her throat and was forced to change professions, causing her to join the Bank of India as a clerk in 1966.

Being a diligent and hard worker, Kamala received promotions until she eventually retired as a Grade 3 officer in 1999 at the age of 60. Working at the bank also led her to meet her beloved husband, to whom she was married for over 50 years until his passing in 2025.

One month after their retirement, both she and her husband began receiving pensions from the bank, which were sufficient to help them live comfortable and content lives.

Kamala enjoyed her retirement travelling around the world with her husband, spending quality time looking after and cooking delicious meals for her grandchildren, and taking part in numerous philanthropic societies and NGOs.

Even now, she continues seeking knowledge and teaching through conducting sessions on Theosophy and spending time reading about the world and its workings.

She looks back on her life with gratitude and emphasizes the importance of hard work, discipline, and fate.
